What is Political Correctness?

I wrote about political correctness once, years ago; clearly, my understanding has evolved a bit since 2012.

In short, people who complain about political correctness are complaining about the restrictions placed upon them by their own allies, for all they think they're complaining about the other side. The right saw that being openly fascist, with its attendant bigotries on full display, couldn't win elections nationwide. So they started lying, pretending they're not as awful as they are.

The people who have complained about political correctness are upset because they haven't been allowed to speak honestly. They've been forced to hide how they truly feel. They've been forced to lie about and conceal their bigotry toward women, people of color, queer folks, immigrants, foreigners, non-Christians... basically, everyone the fascists want to kill.
