I think it's actua...China's gender selection bias? I think it's actually leaning more toward 90% male as they reach maturity, since many daughters are either abandoned or given up for adoption (something has to be responsible for the bias). <BR/><BR/>China's an odd duck. Their economy's growing like mad (to such a degree that their rapacious sweat shop owners are having to raise wages to attract workers). Growing economy means work and wealth, which should have a tendency to keep unmarried men somewhat happier.<BR/><BR/>Unfortunately, more wealth also means more free time and the growth of a politically active group that doesn't have any particular reason to be grateful to the status quo, which means China's either going to have a lot more political dissidence or freedom.
